This past weekend I had a small job that kept me out of mischief. My current boss has been building a Lotus 7 replica for the past several months and it's finally finished and ready to hit the track. He originally asked me about detailing the whole car, but recently decided to go with a matt black vinyl wrap instead. While chatting to him about the options, the idea of a polished aluminium and matt black combo was mentioned. He then brought me an offcut of aluminium which I polished up as a test process. He liked the end result and asked me to do the two side panels.

I polished the aluminium with Meguiars Nxt All Metal Polysh, using a 4" cutting pad on the DA. Refining was done with the same product and process, just substituting the cutting pad with a finishing pad.

The car will be going in this week for the vinyl wrapping. All the red panels will be wrapped in matt black and the polished aluminium will be wrapped with clear vinyl, hence me not applying any LSP to the surface.

The best part of the days work was the test drive after finishing up the polishing Clap.

I noticed that after I posted the thread. I was wondering who would be the first to comment on my drinking habits. Obviously you and Siya have an inside scoop on my drinking habits and know exactly what's in the glass Bluebiggrin.
