Ok so now with all of this distilled water i got from Dischem i decided to check the battery level, as its somethimg i havent done, ever. In and e36 M3 its in the boot and the view is obscured by the CD Shuttle (welcome to the 90's) so i couldnt really see what was going on, so i gave all the cells a guestimate top up, 2 over flowed though.
No big issue, i just used a straw and took some of the fluid out, flinging it into the garden.

Anyways i check my car this morning and i find this.





Not fun at all, i can still see metallic flake in it so it looks like it disolved the clear and badly damaged/discoloured the base coat. Not a good start to a day.

Anyways looks like this will turn out to be a wetsanding experiment, ive covered all the spot with touch up paint and next weekend it give it a bash. If i screw it up hey well it will just have to get resprayed.






So listen chinas, watch out for the battery acid, and rather if you can get a sealed battery.

OMG Nightmare stuff.

Calypso get yourself some 2500 or 3000 grit waterpaper and a sanding block. Soak the waterpaper for a bit in some luke warm water and then lightly sand the area. Be carefull of edges, etc and you should be fine

Hard luck Calypso. If its any consolation, the touch up paint solution is showing a lot of promise. I am sure after wet sanding and buffing with a decent paint cleaner the marks wont be noticable.

Keep us informed on the "road to recovery".

OK so i tried to bust out the sandpaper and sort out my bumper
Here is what we are starting with


2 coats of touchup paint, now just to try and even them up.

Some i did many passes, some i did just a few to try and find something that works. And well nothing worked. In some places i went through the touchup base coat.
Strange thing is it almost feels like it flush and blended in, but by looks its worse.





Time to see if polishing helps.



Umm no, nice and smooth, but looks crap.
So just so you know, you cannot blend metallics touch ups. Gonna have to send it to the body shop, but at least my car will got a once over with SwissVax

Damn that sucks Calypso.

Metallic paint is a problem when it comes to touch up. My Jetta I had, had the the color Wildfire and was metallic. Got a big scratch on the bonnet from a garage door coming down. The whole bonnet had to be spray cause metallic paint can not be mist in on just a small area. Metallic looks very nice but when you get a problem it is a pain.

So, it's a respray. Hope you have a good trustworthy panel shop in mind.

Maybe there are some other areas you can deal with at the same time?

Yeah my shop is great, just unessasary spending of the moola. I have 2 big stone chips in the front, but i dont think they do that kinda repair.
