Toyota 20V detail by dood - dood786 - 13-12-2010 10:43 PM

Having never taken off with any proper detailing, I decided to have a practice run on a friends car. He willingly handed me his keys and allowed me access to his place for an attempt to get his Corolla shining again

Car in question is a 10 year old corolla, white in colour and was never looked after by the previous owner and gets washed at his work washbay weekly. Needless to say, his paint was in a terrible state, covered in swirls and was very dull and faded

Excuse my terrible pics as i wasnt able to get in the swirls properly most of the time

I started off with his wheels using sonax extreme rim cleaner and a little nifty brush from makro. Left to soak, agitated and rinsed off

Then i treated all badges and door handles to some apc and meguairs slide lock brush was used for agitation.

Front bumper, lower doors and mirrors were treated to some bug and tar remover

Car was then washed using CG CWG using the 2 bucket method, then followed up with some CD clay using adams detail spray.

To my surprise, the clay took off almost nothing from the car, due to their being little to no fallout found.

Once done I did some inspection and and then moved car indoors and prepared the car for polishing.

I made a real mess up with my pad combos though, i started off using my orange hexlogic pad and then moved onto the white pad with which completed. I only realised this later as white is the lighter of the 2 and i didnt check properly.

Polish used was Menz SIP and I added some 106FA at the same time to get the gloss up

Here are a random mix up of before and afters with a 50/50 thrown in too

I then finished the car off with EZ Creme Glaze and lsp was some smartwax wax

I didnt get excellent correction as the paint was really dull and dead but i really brought out some nice shine and a good gloss. Owners car was used today and the rain sheeted off nicely so thats proof that the smartwax works

Tires and trim got VRT

I second that. Good to see you finally take the plunge Naseem Thumb.

Although white isn't the best colour to work on if you want reward for effort, you have done really well and the final results show good clarity and reflections.

Well done.

Stunning finish Dood. Kepp 'em coming

Consider changing your LSP (Smartwax Wax) if you are planning on using a glaze (Ez Creme). SmartWax Wax (pink liquid) is a cleaner wax. So, it will most likely remove the glossy base left by your glaze. If you want to stick with the SmartWax range of waxes, rather opt for the SmartWax Concours Paste Wax
