I'm not 100% certain Dood but I would hazard a guess and say it may be to reduce the hologramming from the wool pads prior to polishing. If the paint is on the hard side it may be more effective to compound again with foam rather than trying to remove the holograms with regular polishes.

I'll ask the question in the OT and see what Clark has to say Thumb

I see Clark replied to my question re the compounding steps...
