2005 Tiburon Detail
Hey guys, my second post, actually long overdue, after doing my Elantra back in June, I promised a detail of moms new Blue Onyx Getz... which still has not happened... I know I know very bad of me... moms car will happen soon...

In the meantime, I decided to spoil myself, say goodbye to the trusty 1996 Elantra, after having clocked in a healthy 270 000km (140 000km in my hands), and do a decent upgrade. So I did some exhaustive online shopping (such hard work from your armchair) and while on holiday over XMAS, I took delivery of a 2005 Tiburon V6.

As with almost every 2nd hand car, it has its quirks here and there but mechanically it is sound with a full service history and one owner, the body seems to have had a few dings here and there... with the usual... shoddy work by the bodyshops involved. No accident history though accoring to the AA and Hyundai South Africa... anyway. So while in CT, I also met up with Don and picked up some Chemical Guys Extreme Topcoat, Citrus Wash and Liquid Leather (still to be tested). also Smartwax Rimwax(stay tuned) and a couple other odds & ends.

So the day started with a wash, 60ml citrus with 8l of water to strip the wax which was already on the vehicle when I took delivery.

Before wash.

After first wash.

Petrol flap badly oxidised along the top... wonder if we can fix this...

Car was then pulled into garage, did not take any pics really, got to work with the clay, very surprised, hardly any industrial fallout, paintwork already very smooth and claybar still looks quite clean... Citrus wash? Or well maintained car... not sure...

Another wash after claybar... and then... off to calypso for some TLC!

Tibby in garage, waited for a while to cool down, then taping began

Picked a test spot, following pics of trial and error, combinations of pads and Menzo polishes...

The winner!

And now we go... slowely around the car and over the top... little bits at a time...

The left front fender was polished by a lazy a$$ not too long ago, the dealer had a crease in the bumper repaired before I got there... and the bodyshop thought it would be a gr8 idea to blend the paint onto the fender! Whats up with that??? Then got a complete idiot to polish it, leaving holograms on the fender and over half the bonnet too!

Hmmm this is better...

Bonnet also... not looking too good now...

But now...

Lasty, some pics of the final product!

I love the way the creases on the cars flanks reflect the tar...

Thats it, let me know what you guys think, I cannot have asked for more.

Thanks to calypso for putting in the time and effort to help me out by giving my Tibby's paintwork a good polish, and to Don for the excellent products!!!

Now I really do need to get the Getz done too...

Oh... and the petrol flap is alive again too!

Nice work and the red is just dripping wet! I think you will really like the Liquid Leather. Its a good all in one product for Leather.

Car looks stunning now, red is a lot deeper and finish is dripping wet.

Nice work Calypso, great to see detailers spreading the gospel and growing the community.
