To try and add a bit of life back to the forum Ive come up with a slightly anal idea.
Take a picture of your favourite part or panel of your car that, when she/he is all nice and clean, the reflections are just something special to you.

This is mine.
The rear quarter panel and the C-pillar. A curved surface that bends the reflections in such a way that just looks awesome to me.

Hi All

So being a awesome day and a public holiday to make it even better
I decided i was going to wash my car and give the CG Black light a go

Needless to say it didnt just end with a wash and product application

I foamed the car down using my trusty foam lance and removed the lSP etc etc

I then felt the bonnet and it was pretty grubby to say the least
so I ended up claying the car down
washed and dried the car again and used the "light of truth" on the new girl

I sent these cruddy Blackberry pics off to Stax ( BIIIG Mistake )
he sends me a message back - " Why is that paint hazy?"
Now i know it wasnt great myself - The car has never been polished and i like it that way, On the other hand i was itching to give the paint some tlc to get the gloss back

so out came the Festool on a yellow 3m Pad and Menz FA
(After Pics)

Took me about 1hr to give the car a once over

So bright & early tomorrow I will be giving the E90 some love. I just hope it stops raining by then as its pouring now..

As I will be using this car Next week to the coast due to my accident on Monday, I decided it needs a good clean before then.

The paint is in fairly good condition (car has only 17K km's) so I wont be doing any paint correction (Also because I dont have the correct tools for this yet & My Bionic arms have not arrived yet).

I will start with the Usual, 2BM TDM wash, Engine spray down, Clay, then wash again, then I will apply Either colli #845 or #476 - Have not decided yet..Also might try the colli on the wheels

for the rubber door seals I will use 303 & for the Other Black bits I will use CG's All Guard O- New Car Shine Dressing and for the tires I will use Smart Dressing

Then on Thursday I will do the Interior.. Which will involve a wipe down with a weak APC solution & application of the CG's All Guard O- New Car Shine Dressing.

Pictures will follow tomorrow afternoon/evening

It came in the form of a BMW 330d that a friend had recently purchased. It was slightly neglected by the previous owner, with stains being present around the interior and some really funky pink stuff on the carpets, but was not beyond help.

Firstly we started with the interior as this was going to be a two stage job with the interior and exterior being done at seperate times. As it turns out 2 months apart So a quick look around the interior to see what I was in for.

It was pretty grubby, all the door cards had scuffs, the dash needed a good clean and so did the seats themselves.
Tools for the job:
- APC mixed to various ratios dependant on job
- Collinite 855
- 303 Aerospace
- Brushes by the dozen
- MFs

All of the mats were removed, sprayed with 20:1 diluted APC, scrubbed and rinsed then left to dry.
Seats got a similar treatment using 10:1 APC, soft bristle brushes and cloths, then treated with Colli 855. Two applications of 855 were done to restore some of the lustre that had been lost from that lovely BM leather. In some places were the had been a lot of abrasion 303 Aero was used over the 855 to even out the fiinish where the cream leather had worn a bit.
Door cards washed and treated to 303 Aerospace with the leather inserts getting some 855 too.
Dash was cleaned with 20:1 APC and coated in 303 Aero along with the facia.

Then a healthy two months later, after waiting for my shipment from the UK, I called him back to start on the exterior. He uses one of these paint protection policies and made use of it to remove some small hail stone damage from the panels. Unfortunately that means calling the panelbeater and this guy did not leave the paint in a pretty state. He managed to mar the paint whilst trying to remove the dents and once he had finished, gave the car a polish and proceeded to burn holograms across the whole body. Best of all.....the dents are still there!!!

The owner of the car had said before that he noticed some, what he thought was sap, on the horizontal panels, which there was. So after a wash I whipped out the clay and removed it. At first I tried my bar of Mothers clay, which is on the fine side, this did remove it but so slowly I would have been there all night. I decided to step up to Automagic Medium as it would make shorter work of the task and any marring that I add would hardly be making any extra work for me seeing as the paint was already in poor shape.

My weapon for the job was my newly acquired 3M Polisher

Great bit of kit but review to come another time.

I worked my way up the pad/polish combo ladder to find that BMW paint is hard.....no I mean really really hard.
Eventually the toughest combo I had was the 3M green compounding pad and Menz FG500 (replacing S100, I think). The FG500 uses diminishing abrasives like we are seeing on the rest of the Menz range to improve the gloss whilst retaining cut. This seems to work but does still dust quite a bit even though its lubricity has improved over S100 allowing for longer work time. This paired with the green 3M pad allowed for decent correction, it certainly removed all the swirls and marring but wasn't budging some of the RIDS, but that could just be my fault.
FG500 after working.

Two passes of FG500 on green gave this result.

So work began.
Before

After

Before

After

Right fender fully FG500'd

As I completed every two panels a switched to a Yellow 3M pad, as well as trying a Megs Yellow polishing pad, with Menz SF4000(106FA) and went back over them to get some more gloss. Again the hard BM paint made it a slow process but keeping speeds low(as I was told to) I got the gloss level I was looking for.

Once the whole car had that treatment it was day over and I was sore. I had a braai with some friends and flattened a bottle of JW red to make the pain go away....it worked.

The next morning the car was needed, so an unfinished car drove away but returned a couple hours later. In the daylight there was still some small signs of the original holograming on the bootlid (Noooo....wasn't me ) These were corrected with SIP on a LC Green pad and this sorted it out a treat, after another wash and IPA wipedown.

LSP for this project was the newly acquired Chemical Guys Blacklight (Will create another thread with a small review).

Wheels also got a coat Blacklight more as experiment to see how it would endure the harsh treament and how the dust build-up would be.

Whilst the LSP was curing I went around doing tyres and trim with Megs Trim Detailer and 303 Aero respectivley.

A great car and colour to work on, I was really looking forward to doing my first black car but being my first BMW and finding out what hard paint is like.....I don't want another one for a while. BM that is, bring on the black.....Once you go black you don't go back.
Claying was slow even with the medium clay. This is just ONE panel!!

After claying was complete the car was moved outside for another wash and inspection under the sun then back inside to get under the halogens.
Greeting me was this........

Hi guys

It’s taken me a very long time.
I was very busy with our school project for the last 4 months or so. And lately. my kids were ill, the little “car-crazy” one had acute bronchitis
and I had to complete the project write-up for submission. Thanks God, my kids have recovered and the write-up completed and submitted too.

So here my detailing journey re-starts:
The civic was in very bad shape. It had been resprayed, and the defects of a custom paint job were obvious:
orange peel, pockets, pores and pits. Swirls and rids were everywhere.
(Sorry, no before pictures due to a hardware problem during image transfer.)

I wetsanded the scratches.
Usual players:
* Makita rotary
* LC orange & white pads
* Menzerna PG, Power Finish

The rids and orange peel remain though.
I didn’t go for full correction the (car will be sold).

Btw, one thing I learned is removing all defects will leave the paint so thin that it will be like a football player without a helmet.
Better live with it.

The change was noticeable however. The only problem I had was dust. We are in full summer here. There had been no rain for a couple of weeks. The dust level was very high and our garage is not a closed one. And I paid heavily for it in terms of compounding scratches. The paint was very soft too. My daughter scratched the paint using the masking tape!

After polishing pics:

Just look at the dust deposits. It was in the air

Notice the sanding marks. I used Asia Abrasives sandpaper (2000 grit). Not recommended. Use other alternatives.
I didn’t have these issues with Primex sandpaper I used before.
I heard that Mirka is available here (up to 2500 grit). So, I’ll try to have some sheets of it. Had to go over this part with PO85rd and the LC Black to refine. Couldn't help much because of the dust in the air.

The car took me one and half days. When I got up, I had a “whole body” pain. I just couldn’t ask anybody at home to help ease the pain. They are not detailing friendly. But when I got out and saw the black civic, the joy was more intense than the pain.

I really loved the sight of it at early dawn.
The local municipality the decided to retar the road I take home, and well, I drove through a fresh puddle of tar, warm and wet. I live 27km out of town and could not stop to scrape most of the wet tar off, so when I got home I saw the destruction, tar all over the left hand side of my car. Now I'm in Polokwane for the weekend (drove trouhg last night) washed my car this morning and saw that the majority is small specks and then at the en of the front fender there is a whole build up of tar.
I do not have any pics as I'm posting from om phone.

I would like some more info on the forum please, I tried searching but as usual nothing useful comes up.

Now, how do I get more stars and what are the forum ranks associated with number of posts?

Then is there a possibility of having http://www.waxon.co.za stickers made? I would like to stick one on one of my cars.

Cheers
