I thought I would start a thread for those interested in tools to list what tools they use and their experiences with different manufacturers quality and backup etc.

Some of the stuff I currently have:

Forge 1/4" drive socket set (had it for 4 years and not a single broken piece)
Williams 1/2" drive socket set
Jin Gar 6-200NM toque wrench
wella screw drivers - various different sizes
Blue Point 3.5ton low profile long reach trolley jack
Blue Point 3 ton jack stands
Snap-On torx sockets
Mastercraft ratcheting through drive ring spanners

Basically those are my tools worth mentioning, I have starting buying tools that unless lost or stolen, I will never have to replace in the future.

So far my backup service from the Snap-On rep in CPT has been brilliant! I call him to ask about something, and next thing he is at my house with his truck of stock

Can't go wrong with Snap-On.

Mine is a mix and match at the moment but the Mastercraft tools (the imported ones, not the local stuff) are very nice and reasonably priced in comparison to Snap-On, Gedore, etc

yeah the price of the snapon stuff is quite high, but they also have blue point and williams now.

Blue point are their mid range tools and williams is the entry level stuff, but all carry a no questions asked lifetime guarantee

Most of my tools are very ordinary but I have a set of combination open box Stahlwille spanners which i bought years ago (hmm, I'm talking YEARS ago).



A couple of years ago I wanted to add two or three much smaller sizes to the collection and I nearly passed out when i heard the prices . I bought them anyway as I wanted to keep a matching set. So I have from size 6 up to 20.

haha, yeah springbok... same reason i will probably never own a snapon open box set, they are about R350 each for the smaller sizes!

lol, you dont stuff around do you? I like the mastercraft stuff, just note though, that Makro sell it at about 50% less than builders warehouse here in CT

What about power tools?

I can't remember the brand names of the tools I buy, all I know is when I buy the cheap ones I end up having to buy them again...

My favourite is a Dremel, really awesome little tool... (might take a while to polish a car with it though)

When i bought the tool set above, i bought a ryobi electric screw driver too, that thing is awesome but makes you very lazy
